Irrigating an Orchard
Why is this so hard?
Irrigation is a lot harder than one would think. They need to give a class just on terminology.
When I don’t know how to do something, my first step is usually to call an expert. But after calling every irrigation company up in the city and explaining our situation, they kindly denied our request. Luckily we have a couple amazing friends that could offer a little advice.
But math’s is hard sometimes.
In total, we laid nearly 4,000 feet of tubing. Each emitter allows 0.5 gallons of water per hour but the pressure coming from our solar powered well only allows water to pump between 10am and 5pm at full capacity which is approximately 106 gallons per hour, but only if the sun is shining. To water 180 trees using 106 gallons per hour for 7 hours per day…
My brain hurts. I need a nap.
One piece of advice… don’t buy 1” tubing and a 3/4” fitting. It doesn’t work. Trust me. And also... if any of you EVER lay irrigation... please call me. Learn from our mistakes. You don’t have to do it alone.
